How the data is produced

Every score is derived from two public datasets using a consistent, reproducible formula. CFPB complaints normalised by FDIC deposit data, with proprietary entity resolution mapping 3,600+ name variants to canonical institutions.

Editorial independence: Rankings on ComplaintRate are rules-based and algorithmically derived from public CFPB and FDIC data. No institution can pay to alter its score, ranking, or presentation. Paid plans provide deeper access to the same independent data. Commercial relationships never influence scores.
